May/June:

Students will receive the following handouts:

During class time, students will listen to a variety of musical selections and complete a listening log in which they will identify and analyze musical elements and explore forms and cultural contexts. Listening logs will be evaluated using the Listening Log Rubric.

Students will also perform a short clapping or drumming test on selected measures from one of the rhythms pages listed above that will be evaluated using the Rhythm Clapping Rubric.


March/April:

Students will receive the following handout:

Students will perform a short clapping or drumming test on selected measures from Rhythms Page #4 that will be evaluated using the Rhythm Clapping Rubric.

Students will perform one or more of the following pieces from Alfred's Basic Piano Library, Method Book 2:

London Bridge (page 13)
Alouette (page 5)
When You Grow Up (page 8)
Kum-baya (page 9)

Students may also work on:

Ottawa River Canon
Toronto Travelling

Students will perform a playing test on one or more of the pieces listed above that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.

During class time, students will compose a single line melody in the theme and variations form. The composition will be evaluated using the Theme and Variations Self Evaluation checklist.


January/February:

Students are encouraged to practice note naming on a daily basis using the following handouts:

Students will perform short tests on lines from the note naming pages listed above, that will be evaluated using the Note Naming Rubric.

Students will perform a playing test on a piece from the above list that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.


November/December:
