Ontario Grade 7 Music Curriculum

Here is the Ontario Grade 7 Music Curriculum.


January/February

Students will receive the following handouts:

Drum Kit Beats Page #1
Drum Kit Beats Page #2
Keyboard Diagram (labeled)
Semitones, Whole Tones, Accidentals
Major Scales and Minor Scales
Key Signatures
C Major Scale and Chord Creator
F Major Scale and Chord Creator
G Major Scale and Chord Creator
A Minor Scale and Chord Creator
D Minor Scale Creator
D Minor Chord Creator


Students will perform short playing tests on selected drum beats from the drum kit pages listed above. Students will also perform playing tests on the chord creator pages listed above. Playing tests will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.

Students will compose and perform short chord progressions that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.


November/December

Students will receive one or more of the following pieces:
Right To Left
Cedarama Fanfare
Barrhaven Chillin'
Short And Sweet
In The Groove
Jingle Bells (easier version)
Jingle Bells (medium version)
Jingle Bells (challenging version)

Students will perform a playing test on a piece from the above list that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.


October

Students will receive the following handouts:

Keyboard Diagram Worksheet
Right Hand First Five Notes
Left Hand First Five Notes
Common Dynamic and Tempo Indicators
Three Note Challenge
Five Note Extravaganza
Left Hand Stand
Two Hand Slam

Students will perform short clapping or drumming tests on selected measures from Rhythms Page #2 that will be evaluated using the Rhythm Clapping Rubric.

Students will also compose and perform a short five note composition that will be evaluated using the Melody Writing Self Evaluation.

Students will perform short clapping or drumming tests on selected measures from Rhythms Page #1 and Rhythms Page #2 that will be evaluated using the Rhythm Clapping Rubric.

Students will also compose and perform a short rhythmic composition that will be evaluated using the Rhythm Writing Self Evaluation.
