Ontario Grade 7 Music Curriculum

Here is the Ontario Grade 7 Music Curriculum.


March/April

Students will receive the following handouts:
Springtime
Melody Writing Worksheet #1
Melody Writing Worksheet #2
Melody Writing Worksheet #3
Harmonizing Melodies

Students will perform a playing test on a line from Springtime, or another piece of their choice, that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.

Students will write melodies, learn harmonization concepts and create lead sheets of their own original compositions. Lead sheets will be evaluated using the Lead Sheet Self Evaluation checklist. Lead sheet performances will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.


January/February

Students will receive the following handouts:

Left Hand Note Naming Page #2 (C Position)
C Major Chord Practice
F & C Major Chord Practice
G Major Chord Practice
C, F and G Major Chord Practice
A Minor Chord Practice
A Minor Chord Progressions
Keyboard Diagram
Semitones, Whole Tones, Accidentals
Major Scales and Minor Scales
Key Signatures
C Major Scale (One Octave)

Students will complete the following worksheets:
C Major Scale and Chord Creator
F Major Scale and Chord Creator
G Major Scale and Chord Creator
A Minor Scale and Chord Creator

Students will perform a playing test on a line from C, F and G Major Chord Practice that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.

Students will compose an original theme and variations that will be evaluated using the Theme and Variations Self Evaluation.


November/December

Students will receive one or more of the following pieces:
Right To Left
Cedarama Fanfare
Barrhaven Chillin'
Short And Sweet
In The Groove
Jingle Bells (easier version)
Jingle Bells (medium version)
Jingle Bells (challenging version)

Students will perform a playing test on a piece from the above list that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.


October

Students will receive the following handouts:

Right Hand First Five Notes
Left Hand First Five Notes
Common Dynamic and Tempo Indicators
Three Note Challenge
Five Note Extravaganza
Right Hand Note Naming Page #1
Left Hand Note Naming Page #1
Left Hand Stand
Two Hand Slam

Students will perform a playing test on line 4, 5, 6, or 7 from Five Note Extravaganza that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.

Students will perform a playing test on Two Hand Slam that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.

Students will also perform short tests on lines from the note naming pages listed above, that will be evaluated using the Note Naming Rubric.
