February/March:

Students will receive the following handouts:

Students may also work on the following pieces in the "Middle C" position, from the Alfred's Basic Piano Library, Method Book 1:

Students will create and perform bass lines (with drum beat accompaniment) for short chord progressions using a variety of techniques. Performances will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.

Presentation of the pieces listed above may be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.


January:

Students will receive the following handouts:

Drum Kit Beats Page #2

Students will demonstrate their ability to play drum beats by performing a variety of beats (at least three) from the pages listed above. Performances will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.


November/December:

Students will receive the following handouts:

Major Scales and Minor Scales
Key Signatures
C Major Scale and Chord Creator

Students will perform playing tests on the chord creator pages listed above. Playing tests will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.

Students will also compose and perform short chord progressions that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.

Students may perform a playing test on Silent Night, or one of the other listed pieces, that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.


October:

C Major Scale (One Octave)

Students may also work on the following pieces:

Scaling the Rockies (Bastien Piano Basics, Method Book 2, page 8)
The Can Can (Alfred's Basic Piano Library, Method Book 2, page 21)

Students will perform a playing test on a line from C Major Scale (One Octave) that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.

Students will also perform a playing test on Fall Colours, or possibly one of the other listed pieces, that will be evaluated using the Keyboard Performance Rubric.

Students will perform a short clapping or drumming test on selected measures from Rhythms Page #6 that will be evaluated using the Rhythm Clapping Rubric.


September:

Students will receive the following handouts:
